Death reported of the anonymised doctor who gave evidence at trial and at the Inquiry

It is reported that the former paediatric registrar anonymised by court order — referred to as Dr A at trial and Dr U at the Thirlwall Inquiry — has died, about a month before the reports appeared. He was in his 50s and had been ill; no cause of death has been disclosed. His evidence stands on the public record: he told the Inquiry on 7 October 2024 that he had passed Letby information about the investigation and had 'provided support by being misled and maybe manipulated'. The anonymity order granted before the criminal trial remains in force — such orders do not lapse on death, and every outlet reporting it has continued to use the ciphers. Sir David Davis MP said he assumed the anonymity orders 'will be reviewed in the event of a retrial'. Nothing about this bears on the safety of the convictions, and this site continues to use the ciphers.
