Air embolism.
Method alleged: Injection of air into an IV line.
Prosecution experts: Dr Dewi Evans; Dr Sandie Bohin.
Panel: overwhelming sepsis and related complications fully account for death.
Perinatal sepsis was documented in the clinical record as the admission diagnosis. The Panel reading is that overwhelming neonatal sepsis and the related septic-shock cascade — including disseminated intravascular coagulation (DIC), capillary leak, and refractory hypotension — fully account for the clinical course and the cause of death. Reviewing pathologist Dr Andreas Marnerides addressed the post-mortem material at trial; independent paediatric-pathology re-readings filed with the October 2025 supplementary CCRC submissions identify no objective evidence of intravascular air, which would normally be visible on imaging or post-mortem if a fatal air-embolism mechanism had operated.
