Sensitivity note: court-imposed lifelong anonymity covers every family. We use the court-assigned code only. See our families and witnesses sensitivity policy.
Air pushed into stomach via NG tube.
Method alleged: Forced air insufflation into the stomach via nasogastric tube causing diaphragmatic splinting.
Prosecution experts: Dr Dewi Evans; Dr Sandie Bohin.
Panel: no medical evidence of deliberate harm; death consistent with complications of prematurity.
Original post-mortem causes of death recorded complications of extreme prematurity (~30 weeks). Reviewing pathologist Dr Andreas Marnerides addressed the post-mortem material at trial. Independent paediatric-pathology re-readings filed with the October 2025 supplementary CCRC submissions identify the death as fully explicable on the natural history of extreme prematurity: surfactant deficiency, evolving necrotising enterocolitis (NEC), and the cardiovascular instability that is routine at this gestational age. The Panel finding identifies no objective evidence of deliberate harm.
