BBC: seized maternity notes were never disclosed to the defence

BBC File on 4 Investigates reports that the maternity notes for the babies in the case — the records of each mother's pregnancy, labour and birth — were seized by Cheshire Police but were neither reviewed by the prosecution's chief medical expert nor disclosed to Lucy Letby's defence before trial. Dr Dewi Evans told the BBC the full maternity notes were not relevant to the case: 'I never saw any obstetric notes and I have no idea what happened to them.' Experts told the programme that assessing pregnancy, labour and delivery is critical to determining why a baby collapsed or died. The Crown Prosecution Service responded that Letby was convicted following two jury trials and that the Court of Appeal dismissed her argument that the prosecution evidence was flawed.
