Method alleged: Injection of air into an IV line causing fatal venous air embolism.
Prosecution experts: Dr Dewi Evans (lead); Dr Sandie Bohin. Both cited the Lee & Tanswell 1989 paper.
Panel: findings consistent with natural causes in an unstable preterm infant; no objective evidence of air embolism.
Original post-mortem did not identify air embolism as cause of death. Reviewing pathologist Dr Andreas Marnerides gave trial evidence. Dr Shoo Lee, lead author of the 1989 paper, has publicly stated his paper was misapplied at trial.
