Context
Dr Sandie Bohin is a consultant paediatrician based in Guernsey. She was instructed by the Crown as a second-opinion expert and largely corroborated Dr Dewi Evans’s conclusions on causation. The jury therefore heard two senior doctors reaching the same conclusions on most counts.
The methodological critique
Independent reviewers and the Shoo Lee Panel have argued that Dr Bohin’s corroborating role is less independent than it appears. The methodology she endorsed is substantially the methodology Dr Evans applied — the same diagnostic criteria for air embolism, the same readings of skin signs, the same interpretation of the insulin immunoassay result. Two witnesses reaching the same conclusion by the same disputed methodology is a weaker piece of evidence than it looks on the face of the transcript.
