Dr Dewi Evans approaches Cheshire Police offering his services

Shortly after Operation Hummingbird opens in May 2017, Dr Dewi Evans — a retired paediatrician who had not worked in routine neonatal intensive care for over a decade — approaches Cheshire Police offering his services on the case. The route by which the Crown's lead causation expert came to be instructed has since been the subject of sustained scrutiny, including in the October 2025 CCRC application materials.
